Tapout: TJ Cook

The episode found the Tapout guys traveling to Ocala, Florida to check out TJ Cook. Cook, fighting out of Tommy “Trauma” Sauer’s gym “Team Trauma”.

The guys had fun with Trauma and paintballing, as well as going out on an airboat, which looked like some pure craziness, as they just abused the hell out of that boat. The guys also hit a bikini car wash on the side of the road and had their giant ride washed. Of course they wound up in the middle of it all and only Punkass could complain that they didn’t even dry it.

Cook’s fight took place against Andrew Varney, which he won by TKO in fairly dominating fashion. It took place on July 18th in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Injuries are starting to really stack up and the waiver wire is dry so some of my teams are in real trouble…now that Brandon Marshall has officially been charged, will the NFL suspend him again? Willie Parker is hurt, if Rashad Mendenhall plays well, is Parker out of job in Pittsburgh? What the fuck is going on with Chad Johnson? Should we rename him Ocho Stinko? Plaxico Burress suspended 2 games for not showing up to practice/meetings and ignoring phone calls. Who’s next?

Yankee Stadium: Goodbye Old Friend

Last night was the last game at Yankee Stadium, bringing the close to an era. Growing up in New York, Yankee Stadium played a big part in my life. I remember walking into the stadium as a young boy, amazed at the size of the field, how green the grass was. Learning how to fill out a scorecard, giving me something in common with my father when there was nothing else. Yankee Stadium.

Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Maris, Yogi, DiMaggio, Whitey, Rizzuto, Larsen, Reggie, Munson…they paved the way before I was around to see it.

Randolph. Nettles. Winfield. Righetti.
Don Mattingly.
Tino, Bernie, O’Neill, Brosius, Girardi, Wetteland, Rivera.
Derek Jeter.
Matsui, Giambi, Clemens, Pettitte, Mussina.

They were my Yankee Stadium!

The house that Ruth built became a home to so many. So many great memories. The book is closed but never forgotten. Thank you, thank you for the memories.

Next year the new era starts and the new book opens.

Derek Jeter - the captain and pride of the NY Yankees

Strike Force At The Mansion 2 Results

Strike Force took place on Saturday evening, September 21, 2008 at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, California. Special thanks to Sherdog for streaming it for free. Josh “The Punk” Thompson made quick work of Ashe Bowman hitting him with a hard right hand and then finishing him off. In the main event, there was some controversy. Joe Riggs knocked down Kazuo Misaki, who then retaliated with a punch of his own knocking Riggs down. He quickly pounced on Riggs, who covered up. It did not appear that any of the punches were landing and appeared that Riggs was intelligently defending himself, but the referee stepped in and called it. Always unfortunate to see things get stopped too soon.

Kazuo Misaki def. Joe Riggs by TKO at 2:29, R2
Josh Thompson def. Ashe Bowman by TKO at 1:14, R1
Terry Martin def. Cory Devela by TKO (Strikes) at 2:08, R3
Mitsuhiro Ishida def. Justin Wilcox by Submission (Armbar) at 1:21, R1
Trevor Prangley def. Anthony Ruiz by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-26)
Luke Stewart def. Jesse Juarez by Submission (Armbar) at 4:55, R1
Eric Lawson def. Kenneth Seegrist by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 3:07, R1
Brandon Magana def. Brandon Thatch by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28), R3
Jesse Gillespe def. Dave Martin by Split Decision (27-30, 29-28, 29-28), R3

EliteXC: KJ Noons stripped of lightweight belt

KJ Noons was stripped of his title for refusing to fight Nick Diaz. True champions take on all comers. Here’s an excerpt from Elite’s page:

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 19, 2008) – KJ Noons of San Diego has been stripped of his EliteXC lightweight title. The announcement was made Friday by EliteXC Head of Fight Operations, Jeremy Lappen.

The foremost reason EliteXC is taking this action, Lappen said, was due to Noons’ reluctance to defend against leading 160-pound contender Nick Diaz of Stockton, Calif.

“We are stripping KJ of his championship belt for refusing to defend against Diaz,’’ Lappen said. “It’s a very unfortunate situation but we cannot have belt-holders who refuse to fight the top contenders. We want champions who will fight anyone, anytime, anyplace. That’s the mentality all champions should have.

“I feel very bad for KJ because I like him a lot on a personal level and have always thought he could be a big star. He’s charismatic, has a very exciting fighting style and is a top level fighter. So I’m obviously disappointed that he has chosen to take this stance.

“I don’t understand why he would turn down a chance to be a headliner on CBS on Oct. 4. KJ then turned down the fight again when we offered him a headlining spot on our next SHOWTIME date against Nick. From my view, it is a fight against a top-named opponent in Diaz (someone who beat the No. 1 fighter in the world in his weight class), a fighter KJ has bad blood with and a fight the fans really wanted to see. It seemed like a great opportunity for KJ to me.

“Personally, I do not think it was a smart career move, but I’m sure he sees it differently. KJ has two more fights remaining on his contract, so we are still looking forward to having him fight for us again soon, but not as our world champion.’’

EliteXC will announce a fight for the vacant lightweight title in the near future, Lappen said.

Not sure why Noons has to be such a pussy. I hope that Diaz is at least part of the fight for the vacant title.

KJ Noons is being a pussy
