The UFC announced the return of Randy “The Natural” Couture after being out of action for about a year. Couture will return on November 15, 2008 at UFC 91 to defend his title against Brock Lesnar.
As someone that has been hoping for a Randy Couture vs. Fedor Emelianenko match for some time, I was sort of disappointed by the news. Why holdout for a year only to come back to fight Lesnar, who has a total of just 3 fights. Why not fight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, the current interim champion? Personally, I think this is lose/lose for Couture. What does he gain by beating Lesnar? Nothing, he gains a victory over someone new to MMA with only 3 fights. What happens if he loses? Well, he loses to a rookie, looks bad and the value of him ever fighting Fedor goes away. Other than financial reasoning, I just don’t understand this decision.
